Push ups & Its Advantages For Your Body

In this article we are going to discuss push ups and its advantages. So lets begin by what a push up is.
Push up is a body weight exercise in which a person lie down or simple gets in prone position keeps his back straight and raise his body up using his arms.

Conditions Upper Body

The prime or main muscles that this exercise targets are pectoralis, located on you chest, deltoids, located on shoulders and triceps located on back of your arms. And these are all major muscles and defines how a person looks. When push ups are performed regularly these muscles will be strengthen,  nourished and toned  and will have a positive effect on your posture.

Stability & Strength

Push ups increases our torso stability by increasing our core strength and the reason behind it is the group of muscles that are targeted by it. But their is one thing that everyone should keep in mind and that is the the position. Yes you have to be in right position during the push ups keep your spine must remain curved and rigid neutrally so that the load is perfectly divided between the targeted muscles.
Only then you will get the desired results if your posture during the exercise is wrong the weight of your body will not have been distributed equally among the targeted group of muscles. And you will not get the desired result or worse increase the chances of back injury.

Increase Metabolic Rate

As push ups targets more muscles that other exercise, even legs gets some piece of action. When all the muscles are in action this increases our heart rate because these muscles need more oxygen and to get more oxygen our body automatically increases a muscle working metabolic rate. But thing with muscles is that even when you stop working them they still need more energy but since our heart rate and breathing is normal so it will have to burn more calories to get that energy thus increasing our overall metabolic rate.

Types of push ups

There are many types push ups, can be done in variety of positions but  here I'm listing only major ones.

Standard Push up

As the name say its all standard. Get into prone position your hands must make 90 degree angle when you perform one, push up. Your feet must have little or none gap in it. This types targets the muscles that are mentioned above.

Close grip

In this type of push up the gap in your hands must be narrow than the standard type. This type of push up targets the triceps, back of the arms, more than the other muscles. And this one is difficult than standard push ups.

Wide grip

In this type of push ups the gaps between your hands must be greater than the standard type. This type targets the outer chest and shoulder cups of the body. This too is difficult from standard type.
